A story about the color yellow: When I was in high school, I was one of the bachelorettes in “The Dating Game” (this was at a fully chaperoned event, condoned and thought up by adults). I actually won, but only because I answered the tie-breaking question “What is your favorite color?” correctly. Yellow. Apparently, the bachelor had just died his hair yellow (side note: yellow hair is not a good look for anyone) and took this as a sign that we were soul mates. (We weren’t.)
I drove a bright yellow Geo Storm all through high school and college too! And then my younger sisters and brothers had it, but it had already seen its heyday by that time. I sometimes miss that little car.
I don’t know why it is my favorite color, but it always has been. Maybe it is because yellow is the color of intellect. Hey, that’s the experts talking, not me.
This past summer I made a yellow plaid skirt. It is so comfortable and was simple to make. I think I’ve made at least four of these wrap skirts, based off of one that I bought in Colorado for $50! Seriously, if you don’t know how to sew, this is reason enough to learn. Although now on the rare occasion that I go shopping, I constantly battle that voice in my head saying But I could make that for so much less money. I could crank these out and sell them for half of what I paid, and make my millions. So much for the 9+ years of post-secondary education!
As my grand finale for this monster post, I made some yellow ice cream a few days ago. I’ve made this recipe several times, using hubbard, butternut, and plain old pumpkin. This one was pumpkin, but I used almond milk instead of the mimicream because that is what I had. I also added some chia seeds after blending which go all crunchy when frozen. I ate this dessert last night while watching Party Down. Hysterical.
The ice cream maker lives at my house, but isn’t mine. I may kidnap it forever just so I can make this ice cream every single day.
