Foiled by snow
February 7, 2010 by Katie
My plan for the morning was to do some light weightlifting followed by some yoga. I have had a major yoga itch, but I also like to get my sweat on in the morning. I love weight lifting (because it makes me forget that I have scrawny arms), and a bit of yoga afterwards is a great way to stretch (which I tend to “forget” to do most days). It was going to be a nice quick workout.
Then I looked out the window. It had snowed about a foot overnight! After some weights, my antsy self couldn’t take it any more. I threw on my ski gear and dusted the cobwebs from my cross country skis. How cool is it that I can put my skis on in my driveway? I know I complain about the cold and the snow, but there are times when I actually like winter. This is what I got to look at while gracefully gliding plodding and cursing my way through the snow. Turns out that Sunday morning skiing isn’t on the agenda of too many anyone but me.
No trail + 12 inches of heavy, wet snow = 1 tired Katie.
You would think that would have been enough for me. But NOOOO. I had to go and get the shovel out. (Why must I do this to myself?) I figured I was already sweaty and all geared up in snow clothes, so I might as well shovel. “I’ll just clear off my car” became “I’ll just shovel around my car” became “I should shovel the driveway, in case I need to leave the house today” became “I should shovel the walkway so I can get to my mailbox” became…well, you get the idea.
45 min weight lifting + 45 min really hard cross country skiing + 45 min shoveling = 1 VERY VERY tired (yoga-less) Katie.
Yoga will have to wait until another day. If you need me, I direct your attention to my couch, where I plan to spend the remainder of my day. I earned my breakfast today!
I don’t think there is any way I could have made these look any less
appetizing. Unless I had posted the photo of them after I added salsa and smeared the hummus and salsa all over the top. I’ll save that one for another day. :D
, indeed! I am not a sweet breakfast lover, so I googled “savory pancakes” and come across this recipe
. What with a cooked spaghetti squash in my fridge, breakfast was a given. I halved the recipe, and replaced 1 T of the flour with 1 T of flax, and ate them topped with (homemade, duh) white bean hummus and salsa. An untraditional pancake breakfast? Maybe. A delicious pancake breakfast? Definitely.
I tried the second kind of coffee that I bought a couple days ago, and it was even better than yesterday’s
. This one was (organic and shade grown) Dark Side of the Moon Espresso Roast. (Dark coffee, how I love thee.) Just to prove that I drink more than just coffee…this is for you, Ashlei
Do you plan your mornings ahead of time? I do, but I am usually pretty good with changing up the plans. My Type A personality loves structure, and planning is my way to add structure to my otherwise chaotic life. But I am a gemini, which means split personality (or something akin to that), so I also like variety and spontaneity. Thus, I plan everything, and secretly like it when plans fall through. You should try traveling with me…
Here’s a glimpse into my school/research life. Oh, how I can relate to this.
