So, about that whole sitting-in-my-new-lounge-chair-all-afternoon thing? Yeah…this happened.
They call me The Lob (Get it? Lobster? They are witty, I tell you.)
I believe they call this “redneck”. Let’s not talk about the farmer burn on my arm.
Oops. This should make tomorrows P90X workout fun. Guess I won’t be doing any push ups on my (sunburned) knees. Clap push ups on toes, here I come!
Moving back in time…
Yesterday morning had me out in the yard with broom, shovels, wood, hammer, nails, etc. etc. What’s the best way to spend a Sunday morning? Why, doing manual labor, clearly. It took me about 1 1/2 hours in Home Depot to get everything I needed, and only about 30 minutes to build my very first raised bed garden. Any guesses as to how many times I hammered my fingers?
The tarp is not going to stay, don’t worry. It is there to kill the grass underneath, making my life easier in the future (dead grass = no weeding). I won’t be planting anything in here for at least a month, so I’ve got time. I WILL, however be planting kale and spinach on Friday!! They grew like mad in the greenhouse and are already being hardened off. So excited for the first plants of the season!
I spent more time outside this weekend than I have in months, which is this summer and heat-loving lady’s idea of perfection (insert me with a silly looking grin permanently attached to my face). Other than my Home Depot trip, all travels were done by bike; I even busted out my cruiser bike! (Though I recommend keeping your mode of transportation in mind when you bike to the grocery store. It isn’t easy carrying two bags plus backpack on a bike.)
When it is warm and I am outside, all I want is fresh food. Sandwich sushi makes a comeback. Chopstick challenge? No problemo. What this picture doesn’t show is the ginormous mound of broccoli hummus that I dipped the sushi into (oh, yeah, I made broccoli hummus. I’m It’s awesome.). That’s a whole lotta green going on there. I need some green chopsticks, don’t I?
I really am the segue queen, aren’t I? Four more days until Earth Day! The Green Week Challenge… get on it!!! I built a garden and ate a very Earth-inspired vegan meal…what did you do!?
For all the runners reading this: head over to Biochemista‘s site and fill out a runner’s survey. You can win stuff, but more importantly, you’ll help out a poor PhD student (we gotta stick together, us lowly students…)
